O.C. air quality little affected by smoke Monday

Orange County’s air quality was not heavily affected by smoke from forest fires farther north, National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Vanderburg said Monday. firesmokegoc

Smoke was unlikely from the Lockheed Fire near Santa Cruz, he said, and while a small amount of smoke from the La Brea fire in Santa Barbara County was possible, the influence is probably minimal.

In both cases, he said, the winds, out of the southwest and west, are “not quite right.” And smoke from the fires appeared to have lessened Monday.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District forecast map showed moderate air quality for coastal Southern California, with no air-quality advisories in effect.
