Although smoke from wildfires in Los Angeles County seemed to hover on Orange County’s horizon throughout the day, it had no significant effects on the county’s air quality, a spokesman for the region’s smog agency said.
And if the same wind patterns continue, the air quality in Orange County should remain good to moderate on Thursday, said Sam Atwood of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (see the smog agency’s air quality map).
While some smoke could be drifting our way, especially at higher altitudes, little appeared to be reaching Orange County on the surface, said meteorologist Steve Vandenburg of the National Weather Service in San Diego.
“There can’t be too much smoke in Orange County right now because visibility is pretty much unlimited,” Vandenburg said.
Winds were flowing onshore at the surface, keeping the fire’s smoke in Los Angeles County or pushing it east, he said. On Thursday, the flow could weaken but will likely continue.
