They run on a smog-belching mix of gasoline and oil, and they’re growing more popular with the tailgate party set.
But gas-powered blenders sold by On the Edge Marketing in Lake Forest also run on engines that failed to meet state emissions standards. So the company, along with CSK Auto Inc. of Phoenix, has been fined $240,000 by the California Air Resources Board.
The unauthorized blenders were sold in 2007; the two companies also were ordered to stop selling them in a settlement announced last week.
Tailgaters needn’t despair, however, says Karen Caesar of the state Air Resources Board: there are legal gasoline-powered blenders on the market. Those emit 10 times less pollution than the illegal versions.

Jeez, can’t gear heads get a break? You should see CSK’s trailer version as used a few years ago by then CSK team driver Del Worsham’s team at the end of the world finals race party in Pomona. I’m sure it was the insiration for this gas blender. It was a trailer mounted triple margarita blender! Power came from a nitro burning Top Fuel engine that spun three several gallon belnders. Just fill up each blender with choice of margarita flavor and ice and light the engine for about 30 seconds. What a way to make 50+ blended margaritas in under a minute. What’s the EPA gonna say now? Save your soft-serve machines for the kids…
Who, exactly, is stupid enough to buy a gas-powered blender? You would have to be twice as stupid as the person who created it. People never fail to disappoint me…and I have low expectations!
What are you, some kind of tree-hugging radical do-gooder? To want a gaget like a gas-powered blender, a motorized skate board, or an 1100hp Bugatti Veyron isn’t stupid. But your comment is. The state meddles far too much in people’s private lives, and people who are too oblivious to notice and resist Big Brother’s restricting encroachment into their daily common personal affairs and destruction of their freedom and liberty are the truly stupid ones.
Oh, man, this is going to mess up the parrotheads at the Buffett concert parking lot parties!
Thats right, with no other problems going on in the world gas powered blenders are high on the list of things that need a fixun’
I wonder how A)how many of these blenders sold
and
B)What the state budget is for the Air Resources Board.
Why don’t they just drink the gas instead?
How awful to pollute so frivolously! Even the more “efficient” blenders are needlessly polluting! Open a can of beer at a tail-gate, instead and keep the air clean!
CARB
Isn’t that the busybody agency that wants to ban black cars because they say the air conditioner works harder?
Now we know why the state budget is such a mess.
How about a “Gilligans Island” powered blender approach? I’d put bets on Edge Marketing’s competition throwing a monkey wrench into the mix.
Probably made in China.
