Bring your worn out TVs, computers, cell phones and other electronics to Anaheim this weekend, and you’ll get a voucher for as much as $1,200 off the purchase of Energy Star TV brands.
All Green Electronics Recycling of Orange is billing the event as a “cash for clunkers” type of trade-in. The clunkers will be recycled in North America, not sent to developing nations for processing, the company says.
A company called Diamond Case Designs in Anaheim is partnering with the recycling company; the vouchers would be only for Energy Star TVs available in the Diamond Case showroom.
People who trade in television sets are eligible for the highest tier of vouchers, said Steve Hartfelder, an owner at Diamond Case. They can purchase Mitsubishi flat-panel television sets with screens of 40 inches to 82 inches for credits ranging from $300 to $1,200, depending on the cost of the TV.
“It doesn’t matter what they turn in — any TV, any size, working or not,” Hartfelder said. “They’ll get the credit.”
The price range for the TVs being offered is $1,599 to $4,999; with the discounts, it would be $1,299 to $3,799.
A second tier of vouchers, worth from $100 to $700, is for customers who bring in something other than a TV that is electronics-related — even an old ink cartridge.
Diamond Case also is offering to arrange pickups of TVs that are too large to be easily moved for those who are planning to buy Energy Star TVs.
The event will be held at Diamond Case, 655 N. Shepard St. in Anaheim, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 9-11. Call 800-780-0347 for more information.
”Energy Star” is the name for a set of standards developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy for efficient energy use.

What a great idea! Save the environment and save money too.
I hope they didn’t just jack up the new TV prices by $1200 to compensate for the vouchers. Or worse, jacking the prices up by MORE than $1200.
Well this kind of sucks. I just donated my 52 inch TV to goodwill and bought a new LCD tv.. Oh well at least my donation was for a good cause…
Hmmm…might be a good time to trade in my great-grandmother’s 1987 Zenith…wonder how much that dinosaur could fetch???
@haminator, hopefully enough to cover the chiropractic visit.
@Ross: LOL!!!
I want to know whether there is any expiration date for the vouchers.
This is nothing more than a marketing gimmick for a big store sale.
Paying over $1000 for a tv means you are really doing well,
and maybe your priorities are a little twisted.
This sounds more like an ad than a news story…
How about sweeting the pot and order cable providers to lower their prices and offer ala-cart?

That is fine, but how much will the Smithsonian pay for my 1969 Motorola “Mess in a drawer” TV that still works with maple cabinet?
I’m one of the owners of Diamond Case Designs, Inc. and have a few answers:
1) Cuong = The vouchers come off the standard sales prices of the television. The prices are not inflated.
2) Haminator = Any TV turned in during the program qualifies for the full voucher amount. The amount of the voucher varies based on the TV you are interested in purchasing, NOT the TV you turn in. So your TV would qualify for the FULL amount.
3) HZM = The vouchers will be good through the end of the program (October 11th) or until the pool of funds used to support the vouchers is exhausted.
4) TheyWill… = We are not requiring anyone to purchase anything during the event. One major reason for the event is to promote appropriate and responsible recycling of electronic waste. As you know there are many harmful items found in electronics that preclude you from throwing them away. Our partner company All Green will be accepting ALL e-waste free of charge during the event. They have a zero land fill policy and will properly handle all items turned in. We believe strongly in proper recycling and don’t feel it is gimmicky at all. If you are interested in the voucher, fantastic, if not please stop by with your e-waste we’d be happy to recycle it for you.
5) James = I would argue the promotion of proper recycling, how to do it, and where to do it, is always news worthy. Think of how much news coverage the governments CARS program received, why shouldn’t this?
Feel free to post more questions or call us if you have anything I can help you with. There is a link available from the main menu of our web site that does answer a lot of the frequent questions we have received.
We look forward to a successful event and encourage you to bring by your recyclables. Remember – there is NO purchase commitment and the recycling is totally free.
Hi Steve,
I wanted to know what brands will be available for purchasing.
Thanks!
Johnt = Sorry for late reply, event has been very busy. The primary TVs at our recycling event are Mitsubishi TVs. I do have a very small number of exceptions (Toshiba 32″, LG 32″, and LG 42″). Last day of event is today, Sunday the 11th. Thanks.
