The coast isn't being "closed" to fishing. A very small section of it would be limited. Anyone who's fished here knows in their heart it's a good thing; the fish have been pretty much wiped out. These marine protected areas will be a good thing, long-term, for commercial fishermen.

Its really not a benchmark protection of marine life in general, its just a restrictive fishing limitation. If the environmentalists were really serious about protecting marine habitats, the waters in the areas will first be clean and balanced. This is just sticking to the end users that are usually more savvy and conservation minded then the enviro fund hunting groups driving these MLPA's for cash strapped F&G. Its almost futile to have protected areas in densely populated areas if the water is impaired. Most protected areas in OC cannot meet any of the guidelines and laws that are supposed to protect them. What's next?
